From The Kitchn: Tour a Japanese-Inspired Kitchen

Zachary Smith took a crowbar to the interior of his small North Beach house and completely demoed the place himself, and then he sat down and drew up the plans for his new, minimal, Japanese-influenced interior. To see the results in his serene yet family-friendly kitchen, take a tour!

It's interesting, and I like elements of it (the venting of the cook surface bears more exploration), but it's visually difficult. IMHO.

He demoed and then drew up plans? lol, I wouldn't be able to live like that!

I'm not sure in what way this is Japanese inspired aside from sticking a few wide-eyed figures around the room and having open, crammed to the gills shelving (which is common because of the small spaces in Japan).

It seems very dark despite having large windows behind the sink, but, as daisylizard said, it's interesting and has some nice elements.
